Dačice is aDačicemongst the oldest towns in the historical territory of South-West Moravia. The first written mention comes from 1183. The town’s architectural heritage includes a stately tower, a city palace (called Starý zámek – Old Chateau) and the Renaissance-style town hall.


chateauReminiscent of the Baroque era are the Parish Church of St Lawrence, a monastery complex with the Church of St Anthony of Padua, a plague pillar, and a number of minor structures. The chateau in the town is the local pride with its beautiful indoor area and a large park around; originally a Renaissance structure, it was later rebuilt in an Empire style.

The townmonument of sugar cube boasts supremacy with a sweet touch. In the autumn of 1841, the world’s first-ever cube of sugar was born here; on 23 January 1843, its inventor, Jakub Kryštof Rad, was granted an imperial privilege for the produce. 

Currently, Dačice are a modern town which creates good conditions for its residents to do sports, culture and leisure activities. Great attention is paid to greenery and the quality of the environment. The local authorities build, invest and repair; new housing districts emerge along the outskirts. All of this is a good sign that Dačice is a great place to live.  

culture in the chateuThe mind needs culture to grow which people of Dačice are very well aware of: whether theatre shows, festivals featuring theatre and musical performances and orchestras, concerts, theatre plays, historical street festivals, fairs, cinema or discussion meetings, talk shows and lectures – all these forms a wide range of genre-rich events all the year round. The surroundings of Dačice are also designed for hiking and cycling trips. In addition to marked trails entered in maps, the local visitor centre has a number of recommended trails in hand; they combine the best of what the region offers.
